Warm, dimly lit dining room with forest-green walls, cream linen tables, and a copper-topped bar

Epic Urean Dining

A contemporary New Zealand dining room where wood fire, seasonal produce, and quiet precision meet.

The restaurant is the dining half of Epic Urean Dining, a club that pairs modern food with a separate offline poker lounge. The room is designed to feel like a well-built interior: forest-green walls, cream linen, copper details, and low warm light.

The Philosophy

We cook with the seasons, over wood fire, and with a respect for New Zealand produce that keeps the menu small and deliberate. The kitchen works with a short list of growers and suppliers, changing dishes as produce peaks. Wood fire is the backbone of the menu, used for proteins, vegetables, and even some desserts. The menu is intentionally compact: a handful of starters, mains, and desserts that can be executed with precision every night.

This approach means the kitchen never stretches itself too thin. Instead of chasing novelty, the team focuses on a few dishes done properly, allowing the quality of the ingredients and the character of the fire to lead. The result is food that feels grounded rather than theatrical, with a clear sense of place on every plate.

The Room

The dining room is a dim, warm space built from forest-green walls, cream linen, dark wood, and copper details. Tables are spaced generously, with cream linen and low candlelight. The room seats around 60 guests, with a mix of banquettes and freestanding tables. A long copper-topped bar anchors one side of the room, serving as both a pass and a place for solo diners. The lighting is intentionally low, with pools of warm light over each table.

This is not a room that shouts. It is a room that settles you into the evening, where conversation feels easy and the boundary between kitchen and table softens. The palette stays restrained so the food and the company remain the focus, while the copper details catch the light just enough to give the space its signature warmth.

The Food Approach

Wood fire and technique

The kitchen is built around a wood-fired grill and oven, which gives the menu its backbone of smoke and char. Proteins are cooked over ironbark and mānuka woods, which lend a subtle New Zealand character. Vegetables are often roasted whole in the embers, then finished with brown butter or a sharp dressing. The menu changes weekly, with a core of four or five dishes that stay through the season.

Menu structure

The menu is organized into starters, mains, and desserts, with a small selection of sides and a daily special. Starters are designed to be shared, with three or four options. Mains are individually plated, with a focus on a single protein and two or three accompaniments. Desserts are simple and seasonal, often featuring local fruit or chocolate. A tasting menu is available on Friday and Saturday nights, with five courses for the table.

Dining Formats

One Club, Two Rooms

Epic Urean Dining is one club with two rooms. The poker lounge is a separate, offline space with its own tables, schedule, and atmosphere. The lounge is physically separate from the dining room, with its own entrance and hours. Poker is strictly offline: no screens, no online play, no wagering beyond the table.
